In every holy Scripture or texts it has always been pointed out that "one must love one's neighbor more than oneself".
To understand the true meaning of this phrase, I will try to give an example.
Let's imagine that there has been a nuclear attack and the only person whose life has been spared is you.
You wake up in the morning the first thing you want to do is go and put your clothes on, you suddenly remember you don't need to put clothes on, because there is no one there to see you naked.
Next you want to go and comb your hair and apply your makeup, again you remember why should you comb your hair or put your makeup on because there is nobody left to the see you without any makeup. Anything you want to do, before you do it, you remember there is no sense in doing it because that is nobody alive on the face of the earth but yourself.
Suddenly you realize that nothing matters anymore, whether you have good or bad manners good or bad values whether you are a good or a bad person, or a decent human being, nothing makes sense anymore that nothing matters any longer.
The fact of the matter is without other people in the world, life as we know loses its meaning. It is only through the presence of others in our lives that life is worth living. So if we take people out of the equation of the world the fact of living becomes irrelevant it's only through the presence of others that life finds it's meaning.
This is the reason that all the prophets from Moses, Jesus to Mohammad have all stressed this point that you must love your neighbor more than you love yourself because without your neighbor your existence is meaningless. Majid Biabani July/2009
